After the appearance of the all-electric crossover SUV Tesla X, the upcoming Y, and the unveiling of the Ford Mustang Mach-E in November of 2020, things are really starting to get interesting in the all-electric crossover space. New models are constantly being developed, unveiled and introduced onto the market at breakneck speed. This latest teaser released by Motor Trend also raises some wild possibilities for a new former pony car turned electric crossover war - an all-electric crossover Chevy Camaro E/28, SS-E, ZL-E?! Well, the truth is I don't know what to call it, but let's check it out.

The Chevy Camaro ZL-E, SS-E, E/28?

GM has been hard at work trying to come up with a corporate wide electric strategy but not much is known of their future plans at this point. While they do have a new electric platform in the works slated to be used in a Cadillac SUV, there is no word on whether it would riff on the rumored to be discontinued Camaro to take on Ford's Mach-E. A pair of renderings, however, posted by Motor Trend, raise some interesting possibilities that the platform could be deployed wrapped in the skin of the Chevy Camaro.

Well, you can see for yourself what a possible all-electric Camaro crossover SUV might look like. Like the ungainly Mach-E, the Camaro sits similarly high and wide with a hint of Lamorghini Urus here and there, which is not a bad thing. The rear is squat and muscular with a slick and very coupe-like roofline tapering to the back. It definitely looks better than the Mach-E too but that's not saying much!

Will GM Actually Make It?

Will GM sidestep another ponycar war in the electric space and instead choose the safe path with an EV Cadillac SUV and other more sedate offerings? Given the notoriously risk averse and groupthink culture at GM, I'd be surprised if they let the Camaro stick around as an electric Mach-E-esque offering. But with car companies getting aggressive with electric plans for fear of getting left behind, who knows, we might just see a SS-E, ZL-E, or E/28 Camaro in the future. Buckle up.
