Maserati is one of Italy’s oldest car manufacturers. The company was founded in 1914 in Bologna by Alfieri Maserati. This luxury automaker has, ever since, made its mark through its custom and bespoke builds. While the Maserati name is not as popular today as other Italian names like Ferrari, this has not always been the case.

Maserati was one of the few European car companies whose cars were made exclusively for the wealthy and influential. Essentially, the Trident symbol represented the finer things in life. However, this was lost along the way; many have attributed this to the change in ownership over the years, others have said that the company could not keep pace with a changing world.

Nonetheless, Maserati is back, and the carmaker is ready to re-assert itself. To do this, the company is returning to the principles it was founded upon, namely, producing stylish, luxurious, and beautiful cars. So far, Maserati has proven that they still have what it takes to build solid luxury cars. You need only look at the Ghibli and Levante for proof.

Maserati is now set to break into the SUV race. To add to their lineup, they announced that they would be taking a step up in 2022 with the Maserati Grecale. If their track record is anything to go by, this SUV will join the Ghibli and Levante as a must-have ride. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about the 2022 Maserati Grecale SUV.

What Does The 2022 Maserati Grecale SUV Have To Offer?

Maserati has already shown it has what it takes to build stunning SUVs with the Levante. The 2022 Maserati Grecale is going to be a bit smaller than its sibling vehicle, however. And, based on leaked spy photos, this SUV isn't likely to be a big hit with tall people or big families.

Maserati also announced that the Grecale will have three powertrain options; gas, electric, and hybrid. The price of the Grecale has yet to be announced, but it's rumored that this SUV will cost approximately $43,000.

Based on other Maserati rides, the 2022 Grecale’s compact Ute trim is expected to have a higher performance Trofeo version. It might even inherit the 505 HP twin-turbo V6 from the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. But we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

The announcement that the 2022 Maserati Grecale will have three powertrain options means that everyone is covered, and no buyers will have to compromise. However, it's not definite that the electric and hybrid variants will be made available at the same time as the gas variant.

Maserati enthusiasts are hoping that the company is looking to use a powertrain that's currently used in other cars, namely, the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine present in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio base trim model. Going by this, the Grecale might feature an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain option would see all power pushed to either the rear wheels or to all wheels.

For the Trofeo trim it is hoped that Maserati will go with the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 powertrain from Ferrari that was used by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Regardless of the powertrain, you can depend on Maserati to effectively balance luxury and power.

Since the powertrain options are a bit up in the air, we can't yet say what the fuel economy of the 2022 Maserati Grecale will look like. The announcement of an all-electric option and a hybrid option means that the 2022 Grecale will be in a position to compete with the Mercedes-Benz RQC and the Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid, however.

Maserati is known for its elegance and luxury. The company has also proven that it has what it takes to integrate space into their cars without compromising the vehicle's elegance. However, it is hard to say if they will be able to do this with the Grecale considering its size. Nonetheless, the 2022 Maserati Grecale will not be the most spacious SUV on the market.

One of the few guarantees you have as far as the interior goes is that there will be no compromise on elegance and style. The materials used and the upholstery are all expected to reflect Maserati’s prowess in building stunning rides.

We hope that Maserati’s infotainment system will match its touch when it comes to elegance and style. Most SUVs in the same class as the 2022 Grecale feature a touchscreen infotainment system and connectivity features. These include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless charging.

The 2022 Maserati Grecale compact Ute is expected to feature an array of both standard and optimal driver assistance and safety features. These should include standard forward-collision warning, automated emergency brakes, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control.

We hope to know much more about the 2022 Maserati Grecale SUV in the near future. One way or another, we expect this SUV to be a luxurious, high-class ride.
